As a sales professional, knowing how to make effective phone sales is essential to your success. In order to increase sales and decrease hang ups, it's important to have the correct introduction techniques and telephone skills that every salesperson needs.

According to Entrepreneur magazine, you should begin by developing a professional greeting. You don't want to sound like a robot when you greet the client but you also don't want to be too casual by simply saying "hello." Strike a balance between the two and begin with "Good morning, Mr. Jones," suggests the publication. The key is to be professional while also being different than other sales representatives. You should also introduce yourself and your company. However, don't get too specific yet about the purpose of your call because it gives the customer a chance to say "no thanks," and hang up.

The sales introduction is next. Try to state the purpose of your call as a question, for instance, by asking the client if they would be interested in learning more about a product if it could save them time or help their company. You want to grab the buyer's attention quickly and this question or your sales pitch statement is the time to do that. Motivate him or her to listen and you will be able to develop a great sales closing technique that starts in the introduction.
